In basketball we see players chase dreams, dollars, fame, stats/records, and rings. As fans most of us think the most important thing for players to chase is a championship ring. But, we too often forget these players are regular people whose lives are sometimes more than basketball. For some players this is a job, a means of providing for their family and just that. For others, this is a claim to fame, living a life they never thought they would as kid; expensive clothes, fancy cars, big houses, etc. There are even a few who play the game and use their celebrity to address important social issues. The rest that are left either look to stuff the stat sheet on a nightly basis, cementing their legacy in numbers, or only seek to win in hopes of winning a championship. Whatever their intentions may be, they are all chasing something for reasons we may or may not know. In this game we call life we all chase. Men chase women, women chase men, people chase material things, we chase our desires, dogs chase cars or even their own tails. Chasing is a part of life, but what is important is why we chase. If you chase for the wrong reasons, all your effort will have been in vain. If you want to chase people whether it be for friendship or a relationship be genuine in your pursuit. Chase these people because they will not only add to your life, but you to theirs. If you want to chase material things do so, but do not do so as to forget about all the other joys life has to offer. If you chase your dreams, do just that chase YOUR dreams. Do not make your life about what others want it to be, do what makes you happy.
At some point in our lives we will all chase something and that is okay. What is important to know is why you are chasing something. Like I said before ball players chase several things and sometimes we may criticize them for their pursuits, but we do not always know why they are chasing. They know, and that is all that matters. If you are going to chase something chase for the right reasons, chase it for your reasons and no one else’s. Know why you are chasing and determine if that is what you should be doing, chase the right things because you do not want to waste time. If you do not know why you are chasing or you do not even know what you are chasing yet, do not worry you will eventually. As Oprah Winfrey once said, if you don’t know what your passion is, realize that one reason for your existence on earth is to find it.
